You can look at how heavy a penny is or look at how much copper is made when making a penny, but the bottom line is that a penny is still worth one cent. And since the American dollar has continued to decrease in value, it shows that pennies have decreased in value as well.
Look no further than gas prices as a great example. 10 years ago, you could find gas for $1 per gallon. Now it's over $3. When buying gas, your pennies are worth one third of what they were 10 years ago. The same goes for everything you buy...milk, bread, that combo meal from McDonald's, etc. Everything has gone up in price while the penny has stayed the same!
Because of inflation, each coin and dollar bill in your wallet is worth less than it was yesterday. Therefore, pennies are not worth the same as before.
