Trash threatens to overwhelm us: It is strewn along roads having been carelessly tossed out of cars, we hear about its eventual takeover of valuable landfills, at home we stumble over it. What can be done? Adopting roads is a one way of helping out. You check your stretch of highway now and then and tote away the debris. There are other ways such as giving lip service to those you see polluting. Don't you just hate to be driving along and see flying styrofoam cups flying through the air.
Of course, first, you must see littering aa a problem. Apparently not everyone does or else it would not be so widespread and so common. It is a problem, a big one. Then, think through to find solutions. Ask yourself questions, what are my main concerns, (a)the earth overall (b)the unsightly mess in my own home (3) the irresponsible systems of collection (4) lack of knowledge of the crisis by others, (5)all of the above.
After arriving at the conclusion that there are things that can be done you set about learning more about the impending crisis in trash dumps; ridding your home of unnecessary 'things'; you ask questions of those in the know about local conditions-how can this be improved, who is in charge- how do we share our thoughts on the subject; how can we learn more, is change possible; educate yourself on the overall expense of doing nothing about this 'overuse' of precious resources and the cluttering up of public sites; and step in and help whenever possible.
How can you help? (a)By observation. (b)Report those you see dumping illegally, (3)pick up unsightly trash when at all possible,(4)research what is being done in other places and see if this is not a possibility where you live. (4)Learn, learn, Learn, and keep the subject alive by speaking of it to your friends and co-workers, letters to the editor of your local paper, and being ready to lend a helping when needed.(5)writing about it on Helium.
You can also help by never letting the issue get old. Keep up the rhetoric and make sure no one forgets that it is important to help keep this earth clean. Start a campaign each spring about how to use the parks and the highways more effeciently. Try to understand the mind set of those who go about dumping their litter in public places, in places where they have no right to dump trash.
