I had a pretty bad experience with Bank of America involving a checking account I had with them about a year ago. Even though I do not think it was all their fault I cannot absolve them of all the blame. Their errors have cost me hundreds of dollars and no end to my grief, with no compensation or apology in sight.
I just want to start by saying that I think in most cases people would not have a problem with Bank of America. This was certainly a situation of the exception and not the rule. They did refund a portion of my money so it is not like they will turn an entire deaf ear to your pleas, but since it was only about five percent of what was taken from me I cannot be too happy about that.
In this case this was the account I had hooked up to my online marketing program which I used through Yahoo's Overture subsidiary. When the amount in your spending account is under twenty five dollars they charge thirty form your account.
The problem is they falsely charged my account even though I have well over twenty five dollars in the fund. Due to the fact that I did not have even that much money in the checking account at the time, it went in the negative. The bank denied the fund and Yahoo tried again. They kept denying and Yahoo kept trying.
The problem was that there was thirty dollar charge to my account for each of these instances even though they never actually gave any money away. By the time Overture stopped trying they had racked up well over three hundred dollars in overdraft fees!
So yeah, that was a problem for me. Other than this incident they had been perfect but since then I go through other companies. I can forgive, I just can't forget. Don't use them if you fear you will ever even come within a city block of having an overdraft issue.
