The Bible and its interpretation

by Michel Kordas

Created on: May 27, 2007

The Bible's origin and documents are from people who were leaders, prophets and
gave a sense of cultural, ethical and moral values to many people. At first written in Hebrew and Aramaic, the Torah and the prophets were helping teach a nation whose beliefs differed widely from its neighbors bathing in paganism, idolatry and
immorality. Moses received the ten commandments, not ten suggestions directly from God. The Bible affirms that nobody has ever seen God and this seemingly contradiction may be solved in a different way. This is where we need to understand what a more, absolute law of conduct is and a folkway, interpretation based on cultural differences are all about. Hermeneutics from "hermenuein" in greek is a the proper interpretation of Scriptures. Exegeses from "egesthais" is the critical interpretation of a text. You need to differentiate the two aspects of comparing scripture with scripture.

A great website that will help many people understand the Scriptures, even if they are atheists, is to study a bit of Hebrew for their own edification and cultural awareness. www.hebrew4christians.com will help understand the alphabet, the meaning of the sabbath kept at sundown on Friday, the sabbath blessings and
the fact that God rested on the sabbath at the time of creation on the seventh day. The greeting "Shabbat shalom" is like a bride meeting her newly wed husband. There is joy in keeping the sabbath day. In the third century, the emperor Constantine changed in 325 AD, the meaning of the sabbath and Christians began observing Sunday as a memorial to Christ's death. www.religionfacts.com to further explore the meaning of the Nicean creed and interpretation of the Bible on Jesus divinity.

I was an unbeliever when a working friend offered me to study the scriptures. The Bible should interpret itself - studied accordingly - comparing one text with an another one in a discipline called hermeneutics. There are minor differences in different translations and a good command of greek will help for the new testament as well. www.ntgreek.com I have been blessed in learning from different interpretations. An overall overview of Scriptures is necessary as languages and customs change with time. Jesus said "he will return" is above all the assurance that you will have his holy spirit within your heart. "I will send you the comforter" As long as babies are being born everyday, this is a time of grace.

May you be blessed by considering the Bible as inspired, interpreting it in a reasonable manner, to acquire wisdom, understanding, and tolerance for all people of all faiths.
