Why not.
The underlying question of this debate is the importance of a completed higher education.
In today's world, especially with today's educational institution, it's hardly important.
To be successful in life, you don't need to learn Algebra, Advanced History, Advanced Writing and Reading. It would be good but NOT necessary. In fact, statistics show that rarely do college graduates remember most of what they studied ten years after their graduation.
It's entertaining to watch that show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader." The people on the show are professionals who succeed in the field. But, why is it necessary for an engineer to know where Easter Island is, or if frogs are ambisexuals, or who the first governor of Hawaii is?
Studying is designed to prepare a person to succeed in real life. If he is already succeeding in a field whether it be sports, singing (i.e. Charlotte Church), or even business, then I don't see a problem skipping steps in the process.
I have to put my foot down on elementary education. Everybody has to learn to read, write and the basic in science, art, history, arithmetic and literature. No exceptions.
