Studying is just part of the preparation for that big exam that is coming up. In fact all that studying you do, might not be taken advantage of if you make other key mistakes that have nothing to do with studying.

There is more to preparing for a test than cramming information into your over-worked brain until you see double and here are a few important points to consider in the days leading up to your big test:

-Keep up to date with all you assignments. Most likely for the most part, they will contain much of what is on your test. It might mean missing out on that movie of that big date, but there is time for all that after the test is over.

-Be sure to take notes in class. You are not being dumb if you are asking questions when you don't understand something. That's being smart and that's why the teacher is there. It's amazing how many students don't take the opportunity to learn from a professional while they have the chance. Too often, students look at learning as a drudgery and not an opportunity to improve themselves.

-Have a study place that is free from distractions. That doesn't mean in the dorm room with your partner playing his heavy metal collection. Try the library. Focus on preparing for the big test and make sure you are not in surroundings that allow your mind to wander.

-Try and organize your studying so you will have a set time to work on each subject. Having a set time, will save you time and will help you keep your thoughts organized.

-Always carry some work around in your pocket so you can recite things to yourself in those spare moments in the cafeteria or anywhere else you happen to be.

-Prepare for each class like its a pop quiz.

-Study with a partner in each class on occasion and help each other learn the material.

Some things to avoid:

-Avoid studying when you are constantly being interrupted. It's very hard to assimilate knowledge that way.

-Be sure to get enough sleep. You are not helping yourself by studying late into the night.

-Eat and hydrate properly. It's amazing how many students ignore nutrition. It's the fuel that keeps you going. Arriving for your test tired and worn out negates much of the hard work you did. Be sure you are prepared physically as well as mentally for the test.

-Hopefully, you didn't cram. If your were wise, you would have started studying well before the test. You can only absorb so much by cramming and after that, you're just wasting your time.

-Above all, go to bed early the night before the test and get up in time to have a nice relaxing breakfast. This is not a time that you want to be rushing around in a panic. There is really not all that much more that your brain can absorb in the last 48 hours, so it's best to be happy with the preparation you have done, and arrive for the test awake and refreshed.
