Most of us have been students, attending schools at various levels in our growing-up years. We have learnt the knowledge of various subjects, including History, Geography, Mathematics, various Sciences, even languages. But what about the knowledge about life?
Being a student of life is not as easy as it sounds. We do not necessarily have to go through tests in order to know whether we have learnt a lesson. However, when there are situations happening, it could be a really important test on your knowledge on life, and could very well determine someone's life and death. Take for example: in schools, we do not learn how to use a fire extinguisher. If schools bring up such life saver courses, many of us may find this a waste of time. Imagine, however, when there is a need to put out a big fire, and you are given a fire extinguisher. You could be the only one around, and you have to do something to put out the fire before everything burns down. If you do not know how to make use of the fire extinguisher, you have already failed this particular test in life, and you could have failed to save another person's life as well.
We often forget that people we come into contact with could be our "teachers". To learn how to speak appropriately in different circumstances, to know when to stop speaking and not make matters worse, to know when is the right time to do certain things, so on and so forth, all these are some lessons in life. This is only the tip of the ice berg. We learn about life, in our daily lives, as we come into contact with our parents, siblings and neighbours, our teachers and principals, our managers or bosses when we enter the working world. All of them can provide us with a lesson in life, and to become a good student of life, we need to be open-minded, be like a sponge and absorb the happenings around you.
