In reality, this is a silly question. It cannot, within the confines of the space provided here, be properly answered. The true answer? Take it to a qualified repair facility (IE trusted auto tech) have them attach a scan tool (preferably the OE scan tool) and find out what Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been set. This by itself is not always enough to make an accurate diagnosis as to the cause of the failure. The list of possible failures is extremely long! Anywhere from a loose gas filler cap to a slipping automatic transmission component. To try to answer such a broad question in an article is a complete insult to the reader's intelligence. The true question here should be how you can find an honest technician who will take the proper steps to accurately diagnose, explain, and repair your issue.
