Biography: Edward Brooke

Edward William Brooke was Captian of United States Army, infantry! He spent five years of active service in European theater of operations. In 1961-1962 he became the chairman of the Finance Commission, and later that year in Massachusetts he was elected attorney general of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. His hard work and dedication landed him as the first African American to be elected into the Senate by popular vote, as a Republican coming out of Massachusetts in 1966.


Brooke was born October 26. 1919, during his time he became an American Politican, who happen to be from Washington D.C.. While he was at Howard University Booke became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha on 12/04/1937. He became the figure that landed him a reputation as a vigourous prosecutor of organized crime. He also served on the U.S. Sentate twice one term in 1967, and 1979, where he enforced the rules on organized crime.
He lead the force to stop Sentate confirmaion of the President's nominee to the Supreme Court, which at that time was Harlod Carswell. He became a liberal in the Republican Party. Brooke has a school in his honor which is called The Edward Booke Charter School in Roslindale, MA. He is the Mike Jordan of Black lawyers in his field. He has fought so hard for so many people of during this time. His fight was for human rights, and unjust practices in the government. He fought the blind fight and supported the fights of the other leaders.
