Once a criminal, always a criminal

To a certain extent, once a criminal, is always a criminal. Society will always see a criminal, a criminal. The record that the criminal has will follow them throughout their lives. Most all companies complete criminal background checks prior to hiring. How many crimes have to be committed before they are considered a criminal.

Once a sex offender, always a sex offender? Most criminals can be rehabilitated but not sex offenders. In my opinion, sex offenders are no different than a serial killer. When a serial killer kills their victim, they are dead and the families have to deal with that crime. The sexual offender, in a sense, kills their victims also, but that victim has to live the offense for the rest of their lives. Why are many serial killers put to death or get life in prison without the possibility of parole? The majority of sex offenders do their time in prison and are then released back into society, but their victims are sentenced in their own minds to life in prison.

I agree that there needs to be efforts made to rehabilitate criminals and prepare them to live in society when their time is completed. Sex offenders are not candidates for rehabilitation. They are very manipulative, basically con-artist. When they show remorse, it is most likely a ploy to get out of prison and re-offend. The problem is, sex offenders victimize the most vulnerable, like children, elderly and mentally ill. Sex offenders are probably the worst criminals. Their victims go through therapy and most learn to deal with their sexual assault but never do they forget. Shame on the judicial system and society for letting these sex offenders back into the community.
