We are at a time of war. We're not at a time of peace nor are we at a time of prosperity. We are at a time of war. In Iraq, we are waging a war against people that hate us. North Korea is building weapons that could be dangerous to us. Iran wants to attack our Middle Eastern ally Israel. All around us, we are at war. And the problem is this: If America gets involved, we are hated; if America does not get involved, we are hated. Because we are at a time of war, the country needs to think about the war. It's not a question of the corporations making money or not. I don't care about that. Someone always profits from war. The entire COUNTRY profited from World War II. Even IBM changed their factories to create the M1 Garand which was the rifle used most by American soldiers. War is profitable. However, that's not my reason for reinstating the draft.
We talk about being patriotic for our nation. People come here and say that it is a great place and work here. Yet, it is the ones that say how great it is here that are the FIRST to argue against the draft. Why? Because they know that if there is a draft, that greatness will disappear as we enter war. They don't want to fight for all these freedoms that we have. Why, though? Because war is bad? Of course it is bad. But, what they need to realize is that our armed forces at the moment is amazing, but it is not massive.
There are countries in this world that have mandatory military conscription. Ask yourself why Israel has been able to win their wars. Every single man and woman needs to serve for two years in the military. They need to serve their country and then they can go on and do what they want to do. However, if Israel was ever invaded, every soldier could be recalled and they would be able to fight ferociously for their nation. They are true patriots.
The draft should be reinstated simply to prepare our people for the future. I think in the next ten years, the world will enter another World War. America will be attacked on her own soil and frankly, there are just not enough soldiers here to defend us. If we reinstated the draft, every individual in the country would be trained to be a soldier. They don't have to be placed in active duty; however, by training them BEFORE we are attacked, we have an army prepared if we are ever attacked.
I am not saying that we should send our men and women over to other countries and invade because we have reinstated the draft. I don't think that our soldiers should be for an invasion, but I do think that if our people were prepared for the inevitable, when World War came, we'd be more prepared for whatever was to come. I think the draft should be reinstated, but only for the purpose of preparing our nation for war.
