Yes I do believe children need educational toys.

Being a mother of a 3 year old I know the importance of making your toy choice count. All day long my son will play with his toys, now if a child plays all day with a car what is he learning? He's learning how to make it move, but if you give him a car with buttons that teach the alphabet your child is now not only learning how to make the car move but he will start to repeat the buttons he is pushing therefore teaching him the alphabet.

Another great example of why I believe children need educational toys is, my husband will play the play-station and of course my son watches, recently my husband has been playing a RPG and it teaches him to beat people. Now I sat my son down in front of his VSmile with a Blue's Clues game and he started repeating everything from the game, which included his colors, shapes, alphabet, and more, now given these two examples which would you rather your child learn? To beat people, or to know his shapes and colors?

In Conclusion a child that is given a learning toy or video is more prone to teach himself or herself some of the basic education they will be learning in school no matter if they are a toddler like my son or a middle school child that is using a Leapster learning program to help tutor them in their studies.
