I have been working with people who suffer from Schizophrenia for the last couple of years now, and have received extensive training on Schizophrenia (some of which was facilitated by Ron Coleman - founder of the Hearing voices network, and a voice hearer himself), personality disorders, self harm, and a lot more besides.
Now, I don't profess to be highly knowledgeable, I don't have a doctorate, or letters after my name, and I'm not a theorist, as such. However, I do have an open mind. I strongly agree that there is more to a persons illness than just medical terminology, and throughout my experiences and discussions with the people I support, I have came to my own conclusions about schizophrenia. I have theorized, so to speak. Please keep an open mind!
The following is my theory:
We all hear a voice. Our inner voice. You know, the one that tells us how to act, how to speak, or even what to wear. Our conscience. Some may argue that this is our common sense, and this may be the case in some decisions we make.
My theory is that people who suffer from Schizophrenia have more than one inner voice, or conscience. Don't take this the wrong way, but I believe that this could be a gift if only the sufferer could learn how to control it. The problem with this though is the fact that so many sufferers have faced trauma in there lives, and some may have acquired schizophrenia through this trauma. This trauma has triggered a part of the brain that we don't use, and this has caused the Schizophrenia.
Remember, I am just looking at the illness from a different perspective. Thinking outside the box!
