Timesharing vacations are vacation programs that allow a group of people to share a vacation property for a certain period of time. Say you want to vacation in Las Vegas for a certain period of time, then you can buy a condo for example in association with a group of other timeshare vacation investors. You and they specify the time you want to spend at the property. When you vaction you come to the vacation property during your scheduled period of time. You can buy, sell, or rent this timeshare.
You can also timeshare villas and many other types of vacation properties, like houseboats and even RV parks. People even timeshare campgrounds. Most of these types of properties you certainly would not be able to afford to own and also if the property is just for vacations you would only want to buy the property for the period of time that you vacation at that property.
Timeshare ownership is also called Vacation Ownership and Fractional Ownership. You are guaranteed accomodations during the period of time you have purchased for your timeshare vacation. Usually the period of time purchased are called "timeshare weeks." You can purchase as many timeshare weeks as the contract allows per timeshare investor. Timeshare weeks can be fixed, that is, only certain times are guaranteed. Floating means that you can reserve different times. Rotating means that there are different timeshare schedule per year. There are also timeshare exchanges where you can exchange your timeshare weeks with another timeshare owner.
The pricing of timeshare varies with the type of property. However, you pay a purchase price, then you must also pay an annual fee for the upkeep, management and repairs of the vacation property. There is no set amount. This depends on the location of the timeshare property, the number of investors, and the type of property.
Developers who have timeshare property might be individuals or corporations. Some well-known hotels like Marriott and Hilton have timeshare properties all over the world. Disney also has timeshare properties.
There are many types of timeshare developers, and so you should make sure that the people that you buy, rent, or sell timeshare property and considered honest and ethical people. If you are not sure, then you can check with your Better Business Bureau and/or you can ask the advice of others are current investors in this timeshare property.
