I stared at the doorway for the next five minutes, waiting for Dan to break out of the burning doors gloriously but instead I saw a fireman running out with Dan unconscious in his arms.

I rode in the ambulance with him, praying that he would open his eyes. I knew there were slim chances of him surviving, but I had to hope I had too.

"Tim?" a weak voice whispered.

"Dan! Don't worry! You will be ok!" I said trying to cheer both of us up but mostly myself.

"Tim please don't worry about me" Dan whispered faintly. "I've been reading the bible lately you know while my parents are downstairs fighting and it sounds nice real nice."

"Don't talk like that" I whispered with tears in my eyes. "You are going to be fine"

"Tim thanks for being such a good friend" Dan mustered his last words. He died from smoke poisoning before he reached the hospital.

"Dan"

Dan's funeral was the next day, and I never felt more alone I figured that he was in a better place, but I knew I was going to miss him where I was. I can still remember those last few moments as they his casket into the ground...
All I could think of is I'm never going to waste another Monday again
