Back in July of 2003, MySpace came into existence. It followed the ranks of Blogger (1999) & Xanga (1998). It is a place to keep up with friends, blog, post pictures and bulletins. It is geared for teens and young adults to pass the time.
As with going anywhere on the Internet it is the parent's duty to teach their children to be wise about how they conduct themselves. It's like when you teach your child to hold hands while crossing the street when they're young. We live in a day and age where the Internet is almost vital. We are in a new time when our children know more about electronics than we do. We must adapt with the times, and also give them freedoms.
Now MySpace has even more privacy. You can put your teen's page on private and if anyone wants to become their friend or view their page, they must know either your child's last name or email. This will help keep the predators out.
MySpace helps a child show their individuality by creating their own unique web page. It builds confidence when nearing adulthood. You know your child best, if their characteristics show they can handle their own MySpace allow them that privilege. And parents, feel free to create your own MySpace, add your children as friends and monitor their page. You wouldn't believe it, but MySpace can be fun for you too. You can hook up with your friends from high school, college, or now.
