To consider this question, you'll have to read the topic. "Should parents raise their children without television?" If you look closely, it doesn't mention "unsupervised TV watching" or "giving your kid a credit card and pay-per-view." It says "should parents raise their children..." People who say "yes" likely think that the first two things I mentioned are reasons they should not, but these things are extreme situations where decent "parental raising" is not occuring.

Television has many benefits to it, aside from the easily-avoidable downfalls. First of all, it has educational shows such as Sesame Street. This show teaches children about important things like social skills, the alphabet, and math. Amidst it are many other educational shows on an all-around educational network: pbs. There are a plethora of beneficial shows for children on Television.

In addition, the networks and shows that are not appropriate for children can be easily blocked. Ever heard of the "V-chip?" It's a little thing in the TV that takes the ratings of shows and is able to block out the shows that aren't appropriate for the audience that is programmed by you. If a kid wanted to watch educational TV, the V-chip would allow it; but if they wanted to watch late-night porn, they obviously couldn't.

And ultimately, this debate comes down to the responsibility of the parents. If they want to encourage their child to develop beneficial skills for later life, they can use TV as a good tool, with shows like Sesame Street. They can watch TV with their kids and encourage its lessons in their household. This isn't a debate about using the TV to babysit, it is, however, a debate about using it to help raise children. And the answer is yes, they should use TV as a beneficial tool in raising their children.
