If you feel that it is appropriate to get what you think is hidden information from your spouse then there are a few methods you can use. One thing you can do is say that you already know what they have done and you just want them to fess up about it. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book to spot a liar. If the person comes clean, then they were really having an affair after all. If the person gives every inclination of that of a insulted person then perhaps the accuser may be inaccurate in their assessment.

Another method to persuade someone to state a secret is to give away a secret of your own. For example, you can say don't worry about it, I've done the same thing in past relationships, you can tell me we can work this out. Sometimes liars will fess up when I feel that they're being supported. Generally, most people do not like to lie and they like to get the truth off their chests if they can do so without extreme repercussions.

It is important during the entire encounter not to make judgments or wholesale insults on one's character. The objective is to get the facts and to solve the situation at hand. Coming at the situation with dirty water will exacerbate the problem and could in fact lead into the spouse cheating when they were not in the first place. Self fulfilling prophecies must be avoided while one is trying to avoid such a situation in the first place. Examine oneself and one's partner, asking the proper questions in formulating a plan in a logical manner in order to get the couple more headway.
