Eye makeup tips: Choosing colors

Choosing the most attractive eye shadow involves paying close attention to not accentuating the color as much as drawing attention to the shape of the eyes. Overusing eye shadow is a down fall plus it just looks more attractive to use natural colors.

If your skin tone is fair, do not use darker browns or black. If your skin tone is very dark, those darker browns and blacks highlight your eyes. Sheer shadows suit every skin tone.

If your eyes are deeply set, it is difficult to see the color of the shadow when you eyes are open. In this case, apply a highlight shade to your eyelid and a medium neutral tone to the brow bone to help balance and brighten your eyes.

As an alternative for an eye shadow try using a bronzer. Shades of copper, sienna and bronze complement all eye colors. Using very little bronzer, dust the bronzer along the creases of your eyes with a cotton swab. No bronzer? Try using a sheer neutral shade of blush or you can first place brown eyeliner on your fingertip and wipe it over your lids. Using a shimmery taupe shadow works for anyone.

If you must have a variety of colors remember that matte and opaque colors are harder to wear based on skin tone. Consider the skin tone, using sheer dark shadows and liners balance warm and cool undertones. These include plums, purples, emeralds and midnight blues. Your skin shines through and if you use blue it makes the whites of your eyes appear brighter.

Try using colors that work well together if you are using more than one. Use light tones to highlight the area around the eye and medium tones on the lower half of your eyelid. The darker tones can be used as a eyeliner. Your eyelids are a darker color than the rest of your face and if your eyelids are oily, it makes any color look blotchy and darker.

Everyone has their own perspective on eye colors and what works best for them, that is what makes us unique.
