Matching colors and textures in room design

I just did what to me is the unthinkable: I stripped off 30-year-old wallpaper, scraped off the backing, cleaned the walls, and painted my 3rd bedroom in ONE day! Why did I do it? It wasn't a well-thought-out plan I spent months and months planning out what colors to paint the walls and crown molding. Instead, I went with my gut instincts to paint at just the right time.

Every day I walked past the bedroom and looked in, I had a feeling of the most comfortable and harmonious colors imaginable in the room. It was hard to decipher, because the previous owner's excuse for wallpaper was tough to visualize through. But I, and you as well, can see past the current paint or wallpaper and see your ultimate vision for the colors in the room. By visualizing what colors you think will look best, thinking of the CURRENT colors of paint you can readily use from your supply, and thinking about the effects of natural lighting on your color choice, you'll come up with your fantastic paint scheme.

As I walked past the bedroom yesterday, I hated the wallpaper. I HATED IT! Luckily I had the day off work, because I immediately went to work stripping off the detestable wallpaper and backing. For this room, because of the abundance of natural light shining in, I chose "burro beige" as the main wall color and a bright white for the crown molding. After 12 straight hours of work, I was done! Today, I painted the crown molding to finish the room off.

It's possible to plan out every detail of what color and when you paint, but I feel you'll be much happier with the outcome if you instead choose to strike when your mood suits you. Color choices are probably tied more to emotions than they are by calculated, rational decisions.
