Criminal Justice system and African Americans, there clearly has been bad blood between the two parties for some time now. The thing to remember here is that while there is obvious discrimination in some cases it is not the case all the time. I am African American, I am also a criminal justice major. i have also been in jail before and I have had family members in jail as well. My thing is that once we as a people get pass the ("Man" trying to bring us down) we can face the real issues and move on. The thing is that many of the people who are in jail are there with good cause, that being said many like to play the discrimination card and they have a full deck. Is this fair, no. It really makes it hard for those who truly are mistreated. In my studies I have found that many of the African Americans that are in jail are not there wrongly. they actually committed the crimes and got caught. Many of the offenders were repeats. Now that is not to say that many of them are not treated wrong. I strongly feel that if you do the crime you do the time, but that does not automatically give you free ticket to mistreatment drive.
Many years ago, i had an uncle go to jail, falsely. he lost 16 years of his life for killing a White man whom it had not even known. Turns out he had no alibi after getting into an argument with my grandmother. he left the house and slept outside in a barn. The police found him and were convinced he had done it. He had no weapon, no blood on him or anything linking him to the crime. He was released after the real killer (a white man) confessed on his death bed. What a major slap in the face?! Many would say I have a right to be mad and angry about it, but what would it solve? He went on to have six children and owned a dance club. He is deceased now but he had a good life before he went. He had a story to tell and a testimony to preach. Bottom line, it is not new news that there is tension between African Americans and the system, but the best thing to do is deal with and live your life to the fullest.
