After a year that possessed many surprise performers, the 07-08 NFL season will most surely provide many touchdowns, one-handed catches, and in TO's case, DROPS! Here is my list of the NFL's TOP TEN fantasy wide receivers.
1. Marvin Harrison:
Even though he will be 35 in August, being Peyton Manning's #1 target and the best route runner in the league makes Marvin Harrison the clear number one receiver in the NFL. Marvin Harrison posted a 1350 yard and 12 TD year in 06, so what will hinder him this year? If you want to bank on consistent numbers, spend your 2nd or 3rd round pick on Harrison. It is hard to believe a 35 year old receiver could still have offensive potential, but Marvin does. Playing along side Reggie Wayne, opposing defenses cannot take liberties with Marvin Harrison. With a speedy pass-catching RB Joseph Addai, the Colts have a spread out offense perfect for any top-tier NFL w ide-out.
2. Steve Smith:
After a year being hampered by a hamstring injury, Steve Smith looks to return to his former greatness in 05. However, with a question mark as to who will throw the pigskin his way, will he be able to perform? The answer is 100% YES! He has speed, hands, can run routes, turns on a dime, and a great vertical for a 5 10 WR. In the Carolina Panther's first six games, Steve Smith will not be matched up against a great corner, so look for Smith to put up monster numbers early in the season in which fantasy leagues are lost and won.
3. Chad Johnson:
After procuring a horrible 06 season, in which he still won the receiving title, 85 will perform on a monumental scale. Last year, I made a large mistake taking a WR in the second round (Chad Johnson), but I still won my 12 team league. Why? Because of LaDanian Tomlinson. But that Chad Johnson gave me a top tier WR. With TJ Houshmandzadeh taking some heat of Johnson, OCHO CINCO looks to take advantage of favorable matchups and score major TDs. He will be a steal in the 3rd round this year after plummeting in value last year, but take it from me, TAKE #85!
4. Torry Holt:
Last year, at the 8 week mark, Holt was the clear best WR in the league. But, when his team started to slide, he followed suit. Side-armer Marc Bulger will look to sling some deep go routes Holt's way, but if the team is not winning, can Holt produce? The answer is indefinate, but he will post 1150 yard 11 TD numbers, and that is what fantasy leagues measure. Holt is a worthwile investment in the late 2nd and early 3rd rounds of your leagues draft.
