Placebo is an inactive counterpart of a real drug. It looks and feel like the real drug and is mainely used in clinical trials to study the psycological responses of patients on the use of drugs.
Its just like wearing a Charm. Nobody reals knows whether a charm brings good luck or not. People who believe that a charm works rather find it working for them, people who think otherwise do not find it effective, "its all in the mind".
Placebo drug effects are similar. Patients who believe in medicine, treatments, doctors, hopitals and in general have a stong will to get cured find the palcebo actually curing them (eventhough it is just a fake drug).
On the otherhand, Patients who are depressed , have no positive outlook towards life, who do not believe in doctors, medicine or hospitals generally do not feel any effects of placebo drugs.
To put it simply the Placebo drug improves a patient's condition simply because the person has the expectation that it will be helpful.
