Poetry: Saying goodbye

by Gordon Hamilton

The Seasons of Love

'Twas fate that deemed that we would meet,
That fine and warm spring day,
When hence I kissed your cherry lips,
You stole my heart away.

When summer's sun shone on your face,
My spirits higher did soar,
What we had found, I did believe
Would last for evermore.

Autumnal leaves turned brown and died,
They fluttered from the trees,
The sparkle in your eyes grew dim,
And change was in the breeze.

The cold of winter bit down hard,
You said you had to go,
What once you felt for me had died,
And why I'll never know.

Be safe, my love, be ever free,
I'll kiss you now goodbye,
But know that from my heart, I say,
I'll love you 'til I die...
