Careers at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) offers a wealth of job opportunities to the United States Citizen.
The Mission of the CIA is as follows:
"The Central Intelligence Agency is an Independent US Government agency responsible for providing national security intelligence to senior US policymakers."
The following types of careers are available at the CIA: Analysts; Clandestine Service; Language Positions; Scientists, Engineers, and Technology; and Support Services.
All positions state that if applying for a position with the CIA you should be very discretionary about telling your "friends, family, individuals, and organizations" whose "interests may not be benign or in your best interest." In other words it is best not to tell anyone that you are applying to the CIA and if you get the job, you should not disclose that either.
There are 13 different types of analytic positions. The Analyst studies and evaluates information from around the world and develops assessments and briefs.
Clandestine Service is usually an International Career. There are 3 types of careers within this category. They are Operations Officers, Collection Management Officers, and Staff Operations Officers.
People in this category receive taxable income and non-taxable income as allowances to work overseas.
Persons who work in this area are qualified as follows: "strong record of academic and professional achievement, excellent writing skills, problem-solving abilities and highly developed interpersonal skills."
Officers are "perennial students" who must learn about languages and cultures.
There are two training programs for these Clandestine Positions. They are the Clandestine Service Trainee (CST) Program, which is an intensive yearlong program; and the Professional Trainee (PT) Program for recent college graduates. Graduates of the PT program can be considered for the PST program.
The Language positions offer two programs: The Corporate Language Hiring Bonus Program which seeks to attract people with superior language skills; and the Corporate Language Program.
The Central Intelligence Language Institute teaches 16 different languages.
From the area of Science, Engineers, and Technology representatives are sent to high schools to judge at Science Fairs and look for early talent. They also offer education regarding Science careers at the CIA. "Student winners are invited to the agency to participate in problem solving competitions."
