Have you ever been in a room filled with people and taken the time to listen to the different laughter that moves into the airwaves? What an intoxicating delight to my ears when I hear the different roars, snickers, giggles, hoho's and belly laughs that others are offering up for the very health of my soul. Did you know that a merry heart doeth good like a medicine? Proverbs 17: 22. This medicine is pure, natural and without any additives included and no trans fats! We are positively, doomed to succeed when we have a merry heart and begin to share our joy coupled with laughter, to benefit those we love.
What would we do without humor? We'd all be as zombies and lifeless, seemingly without feeling and taking life way too serious. Besides, life is too serious to be so serious. My mother used to tell me, in my whiny adolescent years: "smile and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone." When you think about it, most of the things we go through are like tiny pebbles on a beach, sitting close to other tiny pebbles. We are the ones who build them into boulders. Come to find out, so many people are going through the same thing you are too. Chances are, our problems have all been self made and knowing this, cannot we take a quick glance in the mirror and laugh about it anyway? It isn't anything new under the sun and the problem may or may not still be there tomorrow. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, so why borrow trouble?
I once lived on the side of a mountain and was raising 7 goats. I would go outside and call them when I wanted to feed them something. When they heard my call, their bay was unmistakable as the sound of thunder would be heard when their hooves trampled everything in sight. When they ran down the mountain, they gave the appearance of being out of control as their heads would jerk quickly to the right, then to the left. The frontage of their feet gave the implication of being stiff legged as they would put on their brakes from time to time, although they were always in perfect control. Just watching this whole episode always made me laugh hysterically. One day the goats got out of their goatery and I was busy in the kitchen doing something I felt at the time, of great importance. I looked out the window and saw 7 goats on our porch looking back at me through our window. The moral of that little story is: if you need to laugh more, buy a goat.
We need the contagion of humor and a lot of it. In fact, if you can find the humor in the situation you are going through, you will be able to go through anything in this life.
Did you know that when we laugh, we give off those brave mercenaries known as endorphins? They are the special agents who lower your blood pressure and it has been said to bring about pain killers and fight cancer as well. As if this isn't enough, it isn't fattening to laugh! Endorphins do not have any trans fat!
When was the last time you laughed so hard it brought tears to your eyes? When was the last time you couldn't stop laughing, and when you finally did; you noticed a sweet relaxation pour over you alike oil, almost as if you had taken a sedative. Humor gives you a peace after the storm, helps you forgive and make up with your spouse, live life to your fullest and helps keep you healthy.
Now I ask you, who wouldn't want this prescription in their life?
