Aside from the fact that most institutions are now handing these out for free to their students these days, a day planner is becoming essential for today's college students.
The transition from high school to college can be frightening. High school students are accustomed to receiving their class schedules from counselors, receiving test syllabi and reminders from their class teachers, and exams are scheduled conveniently for the high school students so that they are not too stressed around finals and midterms.
College, however, is a different beast altogether. Professors work independently from one another. Class schedules are independently picked by the student and may not always offer the most convenient times. Homework assignments and tests contain twice as much information as a high school exam. Organization meetings and social events offer a great getaway for students needing to balance their academic and social lives. With all of this events and things to keep straight and organized, a daily planner is the best solution to maintain this abundant amount of information.
Day planners can be arranged by day, week, month, or year. Students can sort out their schedules according to daily routine, weekly routine, and even travel schedules for the year to ensure they don't plan any huge events around required test taking times. The ability to organize one's schedule and balance out academics and social activities is a pertinent lesson for transition into adulthood and corporate America. We're not all so fortunate to have a secretary arrange our lives for us, so it's important that we learn this vital lesson in college via a day planner.
