Reflections on the firing of Marty Schottenheimer

Everyone seems surprised by the chaos that is the Chargers. where have you been?

Going back to the Gene Klein era, my Chargers have consistently shot themselves in the foot at crunch time. Trading all pro DE Fred Dean to SF still ranks as the stupidest decision in Charger history- you are welcome 49ers. also, trading John Jefferson for NOTHING was a bone head move. the list is endless, and yet i still want to go watch my Bolts, year in and year out. From the day Alex Spanos bought the team, in 1984, until 2004- we had one good run- 92-95. Look up the word SUCKER and you will find Alex and Dean smiling at you, with a huge bill for you...

As to 2006, I waited my whole life for last season, only to have the ball pulled away by Lucy yet again. There are no words to describe the pain of that playoff loss, imagine having your spleen pulled out of your butt and then having to eat it.
Thats a start...

Marty came here and turned around the worst team in professional sports, only to choke when he had a chance to redeem all previous playoff losses. Going for it on 4th and 11 from the N.E.31 in the 1st qtr was inexcusable, even by me. Sitting in the stands, i KNEW. And we still had them. Watching my fellow Charger fans DIE inside after the game was almost unendurable, from a football perspective-
yet another wasted season... how many Charger fans have passed on to the next life since then- and will NEVER see them win? A few...

To be a Charger fan, is to know pain, frustration, and absolute joy when they dont screw it up. I have attended over 350 Charger games in my life, and no loss hurt more than that one.

Where do we go from here? Can Norv Turner overcome his own shortcomings? Will LT hold up for one more season? Does Rivers have the right stuff?
All questions i thought were answered when I stepped out the door to attend one playoff game in January...

Stay tuned, the Spanos loonytoons express is loading up for another run...
and at twice the price- they DOUBLED my tickets, with out so much as a word of apology. 2004 2 season tickets were 400 bucks for the pair,In 2007, the same obstructed view seats are 1600 for 2, thank God they DIDN'T win the super bowl, or i would be looking at 150 bucks for 1 seat for a preseason game...

GO CHARGERS.. maybe someday they will love me back, I'm not holding my breath...
more than likely its going to be the Las Vegas/Los Angeles/Pigsknuckle Chargers...
At which point i retire...
