Homosexuality is not a choice. A civil union is not a marriage. Gays and lesbians should have the right to marriage and the benefits that come from it. They are no less in love and no less committed to one another but because it isn't the "normal" thing to do, our society has decided to punish them for being born different. This is like saying people with blue eyes can't live in cities or people with blond hair can't go to school. This is wrong.

I know several gay couples who are very much in love and more committed than most straight couples. I myself am on my second divorce and my gay friends are still together. Our society needs to get over our homophobia and look at gay and lesbian people for the individual human beings they are.

Marriage is a commitment between two people to love and honor each other. If a union can only be between two people that can create a baby, then should baron women or impotent men be allowed to marry? Straight people get married out of convenience, desperation to be taken care of, for money, for power, for position and occasionally love. These marriages are accepted. Two gay men choose to marry simply for love and it's the sin of the century.

Bottom line is, they work, they pay their taxes, they stimulate the economy and provide services like everybody else. They love, cry, hurt and feel joy like everybody else. They are human beings, members of this society and citizens of this country. They fight in wars, they vote, they live, they die and they should marry and enjoy the benefits and the hardships of being in love.
