The P.E.E chain (helps write essays)
There are many ways to write essays, I am in Year 9 and doing fast track English so I would know all about them! (and how hard and complicated they can be)! I used to be rubbish at writing essays, but I have suddenly shot up to grade A's and sometimes A*'s. It shocked me but it was all down to my English teacher - she had recently explained the P.E.E chain. The P.E.E Chain helps you to write essays. I understood every bit of it. I am going to explain the P.E.E chain to all readers out there who need help with your essays! :o)
So, right now I bet your all saying: "PEE chain - well that doesn't sound very convincing does it?" Well, I know how you feel, I felt the same (I think all my class mates thought my teacher had gone a bit barmy)! But trust me, it really helps. Plus, it doesn't have to just be for English lessons, it can be History, Geography, Sociology...in fact any subject that requires essays to be written in really!
So, the P.E.E chain - what do the letters stand for?
P - Point
E - Evidence
E - Explain
So, say you were writing an essay about how evil Richard III was in Shakespeare's play, sounds pretty tough eh? But, be rest assured that this technique will help you. (And yes I do know how hard and tedious Richard III is...so yes I am telling you this WILL help)!
In each paragraph you make a point (that in this case makes Richard sound evil), then you use evidence (i.e a quote from the play) to back up your point. Finally, you explain your point.
e.g
Richard is especially evil in....(Act ? scene ?) when he...(evidence.) Richard says...(more evidence if need be). I think this sets the theme of evil because...(your point).
Easy peasy! (Say it with me now, it IS easy, it IS)
That would be a simple paragraph that once mastered, will help you to be able to write high level essays! For example, I now write high level essays much more than I used to. My point here is that following simple rules will help you easier than all the complicated stuff!
(and that, my friends, was a P.E.E paragraph)!
