Accommodation Tips & Advice

Tips for choosing a hotel

by MsRose

As someone who has traveled quite a bit and worked at a hotel in the Guest Relations department, I have experienced many of the questions people had when they inquired about staying at the hotel I worked at. Usually, price is what people consider. However, accommodations and perks are what they really want to understand and consider. The questions they do not ask are what can be most important in choosing a hotel for their stay. From my own experience of traveling somewhere and not knowing where to stay, I have come up with a few guidelines that help me choose which hotel best suits me.

When traveling, look at the hotels at your destination.

1. You can ask friends and family for advice if they have traveled to your destination. They can possibly give you a few tips for consideration.
2. Make a reservation at more than one hotel. Check their cancellation policy first.

Hotel Appearance and Cleanliness:

Checking your hotel- Look at the appearance of the lobby as you walk in.
-Check the appearance and attitude of employees. You want comfort knowing that the staff is neat, tidy, and efficient.
You can always request to check the room before checking in. You could look at more than one as well.
- Some hotels are not required to issue a full refund if you decide you don't want to stay there.
Check the room: Ask yourself these questions as you do your examination.-
Look at the floors- Do they look like they've recently been replaced, shampooed, or simply vacuumed over?
In the restroom.- Is it thoroughly cleaned? Does the toilet work? Does the shower and sink dispense and drain water well?
The bed. - Look under the blankets at the sheets and pillows. Can you tell if the sheets have been cleaned? Are there bed bugs?
Smell the room for any kind of odor. Has it recently been dusted? Has someone had a pet in there prior to your stay?

Leisure Travel:

Do they provide a concierge service? -An employee designated to answer your questions on events, restaurants, shopping, directions, hotel policies, and more.
Do they offer information packets on activities and events in the surrounding areas?

Family oriented hotels:

If you are traveling with children you may want to ask a few questions in advance.
Does the hotel provide child care services or have its own programs for children?
Does the hotel have a pool or play area for children?
Does the hotel offer a child discount on meals?
Are there activities
