Every parent wants their child to grow into a responsible adult. Part of the growing responsibility of adulthood is taking care of financial obligations. Car insurance is one of those responsibilities. Who should pay for a teens auto insurance? The teen of course.
I got a job when I was sixteen and while my parents probably would have helped me out with car expenses had I asked them, I did not feel that they should have to foot the bill for my driving. They had already given me a car, what more should I ask of them? I worked hard and I paid for my own gas, insurance and upkeep.
I am now nearing thirty and I have kept that independent attitude that keeps me standing on my own two feet and not leaning on my parents. or anyone else, for my financial stability. In order for children to learn fiscal resposibility, they need to be taught that you can not always depend on someone else to foot the bill. Paying their own auto insurance helps teens learn to be financially responsible. This is an invaluable lesson that once learned, will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
