There were four major Great Awakenings in the United States, The First, Second, Third, & Fourth Great Awakening. These Great Awakenings are religious movements and revivals including all sorts of different religious believers, though it is made up of mostly Protestants. Great Awakenings have big impact on politics and the country.
First- Lead up to Revolutionary War
Second- Civil War, it also covered slavery
Third- A revival to help handle the Great Depression
Great Awakenings are meant to serve as, yes, revivals. They are supposed to bring forth strong religious feelings and reawaken the want to take action and to be spiritual again. Usually the Awakenings will be heartfelt and they will make people cry, cheer, and praise God or their greater power.
