Microsoft Word tips: Importing Excel data

by rwnrose

Importing excel data into word is a piece of cake with these few basic methods.

1. Simply copy, paste your data into word, the table structure is maintained in this case and you can format and align the data all you want on import.

In excel, select the cells you want to copy, copy using the copy command from the edit menu or simply do a ctrl c, then switch to your word document and paste using the paste command from the edit menu or simply do a ctrl v.

2. If you need to retain the use of excel tools in word, then you would have to make use of the Paste Special' command. In this case the excel data is embedded as an object in the word document.

In excel, select the cells you want to copy, copy using the copy command from the edit menu or simply do a ctrl c, then switch to your word document and paste using the paste special' command, this will give you an option of pasting directly or pasting as a link.
If you paste' directly then the excel is not dynamically linked to your word document and changes made in the excel will not be reflected, however if you use paste as a link' then you will be able to edit content within the excel and these changes will still reflect in your word document.

3. A third option is to use the Insert option to embed an excel sheet into your word document.
On the insert menu, select object', select an already existing or create a new excel sheet to insert.
