Gene Rodenberry was a writer who did a lot of things in his time but is most well known for creating the well known and beloved series Star Trek. As such he is one of the greatest producers in sci-fi almost by default.

Born in 1921 in Texas his creativity was evident early on. He was always writing and drawing and his parents thought he might be an artist. Instead he turned out to be a scriptwriter and producer, one so successful eh would take over and redefine a fledgling genre.

He wrote scripts for a lot of popular television shows to get his chance at Star Trek. Once that was greelit... well, you know what happened. One of the most successful shows of all time, let alone in science fiction alone!

This show was a great success in its original version and Roddenberry wisely decided to branch it out in new directions over time. the ratings for shows like The Next Generation exceeded even the original!

Overall Rodenberry will go down in sci-fi history as the author who redefined the genre and introduced its most popular and expansive specimen, save possibly Star Wars. His accomplishment will loom large throughout entertainment history and this man is a true creative legend.
