When our aging parents begin to get ill, it is time to make the right decision for their care. Ask them what they prefer, once they are unable to care for themselves. Sometimes, they will need round the clock care or just a little help daily. Once this happens, families must split the care or decide what nursing home is best. Most families must decide how to handle the financial aspects of their aging parents care.
Each decision should reflect the desires of the ill parent, which can ease the transition from independent living to dependent care. All family members should have the best interest of their loved one in mind. Therefore, no one should allow their aging loved one to be disrespected, belittled or mistreated by anyone. By being a caretaker, the loved ones can make sure that their loved ones are treated properly.
Some elderly parents are able to stay by themselves and care for their needs without help.
But, many may need a full time nursing care or part time assistance, while at their home. Therefore, you will need to appoint someone to take care of the family, when it is needed. However, some parents may need to live with you in order to meet their needs. By allowing the children to help are for the aging parent, the stress can be reduced on each family member.
Start by making a list of their needs and find out who can handle each responsibility. Then, write down each bill that is due and when it needs to be paid. Make a check list of each medication that is required to be taken and how often. Next, hang all medicine instructions and daily care information on refrigerator, so everyone can see. The information can remind the family members of what is needed and required to make their loved one comfortable.
Finally, place a notebook beside their bed, which contains there medical information and daily care log. Have everyone write down the medicine that they administer or other tasks that they perform. The aging parent deserves the best their family can give, so take the time to find out what they want and need. This way everyone knows exactly what they need to do, in order to fulfill their wishes. Everyone should be stay informed and plan ahead, so they can reduce the anxiety or stress.
