Judging others by size

Human beings, by their very nature, are visual creature. We are influenced by greed and we associate bigger with being better.

I really think that human nature makes us greedy. We are a culture obsessed with celebrity and excess. We envy people because they have bigger salaries, bigger cars, bigger houses. I even saw a television show that showed exactly how much size does matter to people and how insecure smaller things make us. That show was called 'Penis Envy'.

I think that while it is absolutely ridiculous, the principle of 'penis envy' is a frightening one. I know that the problems with any jealousy or envy are purely psychological but how many people receive treatment for these 'inadequacies'? I will bet any amount of money that not many address these problems head-on.

The preferred route is to address the problem by disguising the problem rather than dealing with it. To apply for jobs with higher salaries. To buy a new car. To have cosmetic surgery done. Usually these problems are answered by short-term solutions.

Sooner or later, you will meet someone with a bigger car than your new one, for someone you know to get a promotion or a raise. What do you do then?

I always pride myself on being a minimal kind of person, I don't require things to make me happy. I'm happy with what I have and I have no problems with envying people. I have someone that loves me and I have a decent job that I am proud and happy to do. I couldn't ask for more.

Judging by size is a stupid concept but it does happen more frequently than most people might actually recognize. I know that greed is part of human nature but the idea is to control what measures you take to deal with your jealously. Hopefully it's a trend that will die out with life experience for most people. For those who don't grow out of it, help may be needed.
