The fasted way to rid yourself of gray hair is to dye it. There are no magic cures to change the effects of aging in your body. So you can choose to either accept going gray, or you can color your hair to hide it.

If you choose to color it, which is what I intend to do, then you have two choices.

Color it at home. Or go to a salon every 4-6 weeks to have them color it for you.

First let me cover going to a salon and what to ask for. When you go to get your hair colored be prepared to spend at least $100 on the initial coloring and consultation, unless you have a regular stylist who will give you a deal as a good customer. Bring a picture with you of the color you would like. If you want to make a drastic change in your color now is a good time to do it. Just realize that the darker you go, the faster your gray roots will show.

Opt for highlights. If you don't have a lot of gray, you don't have to color your whole head. You can get highlights to blend in and cover most of the gray. Or if you are really graying, choose a base color that is similar to your natural color and get highlights that range from three to seven shades lighter. The highlights will not only cover gray, but will give you a more youthful appearance.

Go blond. If you are mostly gray going to a natural color blond, not bleached, will cover your gray fully and give you a natural look.

Coloring your hair at home can be difficult if you have never done it before. The problem with most at home hair color is the monochromatic shading. The new ten minute hair color from Revlon claims it will color your grays too. Trust me, it doesn't.

Temporary colors, usually the number two level colors will cover most gray without the bad smells that permanent kinds have. If you watch your hair every day it will last for about three weeks. If you wash your hair every other day it will last for almost six weeks. Temporaries will give you minimum highlights and you should stay within two shades of your normal hair color. They are not good for all over gray.

Permanent hair colors are good for all over gray and drastic changes. You will have to do touch ups every four to six weeks. They take about twenty-five minutes to thirty-five minutes to set the color.

If you are going to take your hair more then three shades lighter from your natural color it is best to use a salon, because at home bleaching can cause massive hair damage. I have done it before and ended up cutting my hair into a pixie cut!
