There is nothing worse than having a blog with font colors and styles in which nobody can read because the background drowns out the words. Be compromising when it comes to color. Contrast font color with background color style. The internet offers a tremendous number of free and pay background and template layouts. Choose among them or better still if you have a creative side, create your own.
4. Name the blog. Since the first inception of blogging, names have come and gone but it still creates an ambiance of what the site projects. The Wild Cats, for example, could relate to a college team mascot or an unruly group of women that do not take crap from anybody. The Essence of the Moment can relate to a sensual website with soft romantic stories or the ramblings of an elderly woman from her youthful days as a debutante. Keep this in mind when coming up with a blog name.
5. Complete the articles using proper punctuation, grammar, style, and clarity. Edit each article several times before going live by uploading the articles to your blog. One or two errors are understandable yet having handful after handful only serves to drive readers away. Nobody wants to read the writings of someone that cannot pass the basic of equivalency tests or at least the best use of a word processor with the grammar and style checkers turned on along with spell-check.
6. Once the website is live, begin spreading the word. Check into sites such as Technorati, Google's Adsense, Diggit, and many others. Search various blogs for the addition of other ranking blogsites to help the blog you created rise to the top. It is also important to keep the content coming. If you plan to be away for a while, add a note that something came up and you will be unable to post until such and such date. Do NOT mention going out of town merely for safety's sake.
Final Note: Blogs do not become successes overnight. It takes time, determination, perseverance, and most of all quality content. Now go start that blog or repair the one that is going nowhere fast!
