There are many ways that you can switch to cleaner energy sources than the ones which you possibly use today, if you have not already chosen to be environmentally green.. How far you go is really up to you. You could begin with small, easy to buy and use items and work your way up to a completely new way of green living if you wish to.
The advantages of using clean sources of energy are endless, from saving you money to providing you with convenience and a way of contributing to a healthier environment for generations to come.
If you are living in rented accommodation there are many clean energy sources which you are unable to take advantage of, but even you will be able to find some small, but useful items. Not all torches require batteries for example. One which is manually wound up to produce energy, or one which you squeeze can provide you with as decent amount of light as a battery run torch.
Likewise, wind up radios can be very useful as they are cost effective and always raring to go, as long as you have the energy to expend a little of your own energy to get them going! No longer will you have to purchase batteries all of time or worry about disposing them being bad for the environment.
Even garden fountains can make use of solar power. They do tend to need full sunshine to operate, but make a fine stream of water in the air when operating and help to aerate your pond. Solar lights around your garden can provide you with light for hours after dark. They are great for out door parties and barbeque's.
If you own your own home then you can go further with clean energy sources and have solar panels installed to heat your hot water. You could also buy a small wind turbine to produce energy for your home. Both wind and solar energy are renewable and cleaner than the conventional energy sources which we are more used to.
Switching to a car that takes bio diesel instead of gasoline would be as efficient, if not more so, than other fuels and be better for the atmosphere by not producing greenhouse gasses and contributing to global warming.
If you are interested in finding out about green plans in your area then you can use the u switch calculator at www.uswitch.com. By typing in your details you can find out all that you need to know to get you started along the road to using clean energy.
If you are lucky, you may even discover that your local council offer grants towards individuals adopting a greener lifestyle and that you are eligible to apply for one, either on line or at your local council office.
