Teaching children about atheism

When a person is an 'atheist' they do not believe in God. Teaching a child to 'not believe' in a subject, other than that which is morally incorrect, would be rather unusual.

My parents are atheists and yet made sure that they didn't force their belief system upon me as a child. I went to Sunday school and was able to go to church whenever I wanted without this being questioned. This allowed me to be able to make an informed decision when making up my own mind about whether or not I believe in God.

Other children are not always so lucky and parents are more likely to instill their version of what they think and believe into their children from an early age, thus limiting the child's choices and scope for decision making.

If a parent merely wishes to inform a child about their beliefs, without exerting pressure, then this may be regarded as educational. Teaching a child about atheism would most likely involve teaching a scientific view of how the world was created and from where we descend.

There are a variety of books and films relating to the evolution of the earth and mans history through the process of evolution which can help make a parents task easier and a more enjoyable process.

Some atheists have other spiritual beliefs which they may also like to share with their children inorder to give them further knowledge with which to make their own choices.
