Players in the NFL continue to get into trouble because of poor personal choices. It seems that they can't manage their own personal conduct outside of the game. Everyday I turn on ESPN and there is a new story about a player that has been arrested. Today is a time which requires the professional athlete to conduct himself in the most pristine manner because someone is always looking to start a lawsuit against someone that is earning millions and also someone that is playing for a team that might be liable for their actions.
How players in the NFL live their personal lives, whether they like it or not, will for now til the end of their careers be viewed under a microscope. This is just the price they pay for the career they have picked. Owners have put clauses in contracts that limit what a person can do in the off season. So maybe they should add "break the law" to the list. I can see the contracts now. You _(pro athlete)_ may not not be arrested for the following offenses: Killing another person, unless it is during a regulation game. Physical assault, be it in a night club or in your own home, unless it can be proved that the attack was initiated by a crazed fan or an intruder trying to get to your super bowl trophy. Again game clause applies. No rape; unless committed in a correctional facility and you have been given consent. No illegal drug use that has not been passed by the league officials, remember if it doesn't improve your performance then it is bad! Check with your teams physician. Well you get the picture.
I can give all the football players the same advice that my daddy gave me. "If you don't want something bad to happen don't put yourself in that position for it to happen." In other words if you are in a club at 2a.m. with a bunch of drunk, testosterone junkies, naked women, guns, cocaine, and a large amount of disposable income, expect to have something bad to happen! Duh Duh Duh! Alarmed that you are treated like a criminal? Don't put yourself in a criminal situation.
I think that 3 strikes is more than liberal. How many of us could go into work on Monday and tell our bosses that we did some of the stuff that these guys have done and still have a job. Nuff said.
