Firings: Understand why you were fired

It's a hard concept to understand. Me being fired. You have to be kidding ( as my mind was racing) I said to the boss that horrible Friday in 2006.Your kidding right Bob, I mean, this is joke right? No, its not he replied, with the most disgusting scowl I can remember seeing. THIS was a guy who smiled at me in the halls, invited me and the family over for cook-outs, and always gave me top rated job reviews.I was told my position in the company was because of budget cuts.I guess at the time it seemed reasonable, but after a few months I wondered why my contemporaries at the radio station were still there. I mean, we all made about the same money. Why let me go?

It's been a long hard year since my job release. I hate to say I was fired, but rather "let go".Ive had to really down size my family's lifestyle, and learn how to REALLY manage money.. what little is coming in.In the depression of being let go, I guess there is a positive. I've learned how to be self sufficient in several different areas, mostly self taught. Now all this will tie in nicely for your reading pleasure, when you hear what I'm about to say. Remember the above statement that " Ive learned how to be self sufficient in several different areas, mostly self taught". THATS WAS WHY I WAS LET GO!

In pressing some of my "friends" and co workers, they did share the fact that I
was portrayed as the guy who did the least. Mind you, my on air performance as a radio personality was stellar, but thats pretty much all I did. My co workers did their respective shows, BUT also did a variety of other functions. They were multi-tusker's. Some did it voluntarily, and other were required to do so. I always figured that if I did my show well, and had great ratings and happy advertisers, all would be fine. It wasn't enough.

My motto today is.. work harder than you ever have before, and do the best job I can
on any project that comes my way. I'm really working at this "self employment" status, and so far I'm doing o.k. Its when I really understood why I was let go, did it help me clarify my goals for the future, and learn from my mistakes. I'm slowly re-gaining my self worth, and there are days when I really feel like the "past" is gone , and the "future" is ahead... and really believe it.
