It is the mantra reserved for all those who are dysfunctional in one way or another.
"Admit you have a problem."
Someone with an obvious drinking problem can go to 100 A.A. meetings, but until that person can actually stand up and say the magic words to his Higher Power and to all the world, and most of all to himself, the healing will never truly begin.
He must recognize the reality and be willing to say, "I am an alcoholic."
Regrettably, it almost always takes reaching the very bottom of their existence before the realization sets in.
There is just no way to change what is happening in your life, if you don't admit it's a problem.
Any attempt that is made will be half-hearted and just won't last.
A person dealing with an addiction will continue to use self-imposed smoke and mirrors to convince himself that all is well with the world.
Why would he want to change anything if that's what he thinks? To him, life is good. The sweet nectar of the next drink continues to be his clarion call, and he remains oblivious to all the chaos that he is leaving in his wake.
Lost jobs, friends, respect, and health. He will remain oblivious to the Hell he is putting his loved ones through. He will remain oblivious that what he is doing will scar this children for the rest of their existence.
Everyone in his tortured life. Everyone that loves him, will pay a heavy price because he is not capable of saying those few words.....
"I have a problem and I need help."
