"Farthest from your mind is the thought of falling back. You carefully dig a hole, you dig deep and you patiently wait" a quote from the (movie) Band of Brothers. Hang on as I unfold a soul shaking two minute scenario that will resonate with many of my readers. This short short will include no names (neither near or far). Any resemblance to another, to include yourself, is purely coincidental. You are about to be moved.
Description: hardworking, results driven, focused yet flexible team player. Accustomed to delivering above the bar results, lending a helping hand to others, and tapping internal motivation on a whim. Willing to go above and beyond, at times at the expense of family, to achieve stated and unstated goals of the organization. Detail oriented professional looking to align with an organization that appreciates the talents and verifiable track record being presented.
Reality: the firm brings the described individual on board and they eventually do as they have consistently done. Yet they find themselves still missing the promotion or worst yet making coffee for the partners. What do they do? How do they translate all this success into a combination worthy of anything more than just giving up? How do they continue to embrace the familiar phrase Praise is what I do when it seems not even He is listening? They persevere.
To understand the gravity of this scenario, one would have to hold first hand experience. There are numerous examples of others that have remained steadfast and emerged to become what we consider great. According to Samuel Johnson, "few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance." More often than not there's an untold story. Might you be an untold story? It's Monday let's persevere - and keep it moving!
