Reflections: My greatest accomplishments

I basically belonged to a very poor family of a third world country in Asia. Though my father was a grand son of a feudal lord but my great grand father lost every thing in fighting against British colonial rule, for he was a man of honor. I saw my parents struggling hard in my childhood, memories of which are printed on my mind so clearly that I can even recall every bit of detail. Sometimes it was hard to get a meal, twice a day, but my parents always stressed on our education and only hoped that we will not let their efforts go waste. Fortunately, I responded to their hopes among my siblings. They managed to somehow get me resources and I tried to move forward with good grades. After fifth grade I started winning merit scholarships, so somehow lessened the burden on them.

In my 9th grade I was selected for a national competition and I still get emotional on recalling how excited and happy I was, winning that presidential award, locally known as "President's Talent Forming Scholarship". I was never and still not proud of winning the award specifically but the smile on my great parent's faces and tears of happiness in their eyes made me really proud of myself. It was a dream for me to make them smile for a while in their rough and tough life. Later I continued winning scholarships and never was a burden on them. I did my engineering, got a very good job and now I am doing my Doctorate in France, still on a handsome scholarship. I have done nothing for my great parents who sacrificed their youth, enjoyment and everything to make us succeed and happy but I do am proud of making them proud of me.
