For my little guys it's easy to combine the mental and physical aspects of homework.
I make up games for them to play that involve both.
When one child had to learn to count by twos we invented a form of "Mother May I"
wherein he could take different kinds of steps toward the finish line with every correct answer.
Another time we studied for a test by having a treasure hunt outside.I got a couple of "treasures" from the Dollar store and hid them.I made a map that showed where clues could be found. On finding each clue the child had to answer a question in order to get the next clue. They were running around the yard searching for clues and laughing.
This has become a favorite now.
We did the same idea with hop scotch .When you land in a square you have to answer a question to move on.The possibilities are endless.Even for older kids you can do the same thing with the old game of "Horse"in basketball.
We did that and used difficult spelling words instead of "Horse".
You had to add the next letter correctly on your turn and make the shot.
Homework is a lot more fun when you take it outside and play.
