In a previous article I have written, I talked about how Hollywood has taken in the video game industry into its arms and is attempting to adapt this media into a screen format with little luck. So what do we, the gaming community, take into account when considering what games should, and probably have a better chance at, become a movie. There's three factors to consider: story, character development, and available space in the material. I shall explain how each of these factors are involved in each of the games I list that should by all means be made into a movie.
1) Myst (entire series excluding Uru) Most people know about the two brother, Rand and Robin Miller who started off the small gaming company of Cyan Worlds creating kids games for educational and entertainment. They gained international recognition in the early 1990s with the release of Myst, a point and click adventure game. With the release of Myst came the story of Atrus and his family who, with the power of writing, are able to travel to untold worlds beyond our imagination. For nearly 15 years, the brothers and Cyan Worlds have given us a developed storyline and history of Atrus's family and the society he comes from as we, "The Stranger", struggle through the game in an attempt to uncover the truth of the world of Myst. This series, spanning five games and three books (with a possible fourth in the works), has enough room to allow a movie to be made based on the view of "The Stranger" or possible "The Strangers". The books alone have enough background information to allow us a better understanding of Atrus, his father Gehn and his wife Catherine. I understand that at one time, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg were interested in gaining the rights to this series in order to make it into a film.
2) Halo I don't really need to say much about Halo except for one thing: may the people who prevented Peter Jackson from starting production on the film rot in a living cell. Anyone who has played Halo or have read the Halo series know the tale of John a.k.a. Master Chief, a Spartan class soldier who is thrust into the Covenant conflict and becomes a one man army to save the human race from extinction. Although Halo has a very good chance of getting a R rating from MPAA due to violence and language, it doesn't change the fact that the characters are well developed in the series and Halo provides us with enough suspense and story to have us question what will happen next to the Master Chief. Needless to
