Scotty lost in space....Kind of...An update
Scotty's (James Doohan's) ashes were blasted into space along with about 200 other deceased adventure seekers.
I'm not sure why the Star Trek engineer determined that this was the way he wanted to spend the afterlife, drifting through the great void, but that's a debate for another time.
The bizarre part of this story is not the depositing of celebrity ashes in space but the ignominious end they reached.
Sure they made it into space, about 200 miles above the planet, just out of the atmosphere, then the space urn made a rapid descent back into the atmosphere, plunging into the beautiful mountains of California.
One problem.
As of this writing they've been unable to find the spacecraft. The technical explanation is that radar echoes were reflected by the mountains making it difficult to track the vehicle.
It all makes me think that perhaps I'll wait to blast my ashes into space, until they've figured a way for the craft to drift endlessly into the great void. That or I'll try to raise the $20 Million for quick space tourist jaunt to the International Space Station.
For now, I'd prefer to remember Scotty saying:" She hasn't got the power Capn'".
Beam me up Scotty, when all is perfected please.
