The conglomeration or gathering together of different species of human beings in a place of employment where work is done is perhaps the most basic definition of workplace diversity.
When you walk into a bank of America, you see an African American bank teller, a Hispanic branch manager, and an Indian home loans adviser; when you walk into a hospital, you see a list of physicians and other hospital staff with names that sound Asian all the way to Zimbabwean. That is what it looks like.
It unfortunately could lead to culture clash or perhaps discrimination, but that's part of everyday life people have to deal with. It positively means that places of employment benefit from the diverse people working together to perform a particular task more efficiently and effectively. Newer ways are created from different backgrounds and perspectives to help increase production and productivity.
It also means more work opportunities are created in multiple industries and areas of work for people of different backgrounds and races. It means America is healing itself and trying to improve from years of narrow mindedness and racism of all manners. It means people are become more unified, more understanding and willing to expand their horizons to include areas that would have otherwise been ignored.
It all boils down to different backgrounds, races, personalities, and peoples coming together with similar intent and common goals to perform and integrate duties that will enhance workplace productivity.
